Capturing the Power of Nature
I had the incredible opportunity to witness the raw power of nature during a summer storm at East Point Lighthouse in Southern New Jersey. Watching the radar as a large storm approached the Delaware Bay, I knew this was my chance to capture something truly extraordinary. With little time to spare, I arrived just after 6PM and I hurriedly set up my camera. What followed were four captivating moments frozen in time.
Photo 1 – 6:13 PM: The distant storm made its presence known, with dark clouds looming overhead as it pushed into the frame. The anticipation was palpable as I prepared to capture the impending majesty of the storm.
Photo 2 – 6:23 PM: Witnessing a sight often seen along the leading edge of strong thunderstorms, I photographed the awe-inspiring shelf cloud. A harbinger of the strong winds to follow, it brought a refreshing coolness to the air.
Photo 3 – 6:26 PM: Creating a panoramic view from six stitched-together photos, I captured the massive shelf cloud that seemed almost directly above me. Its sheer scale left me in awe of nature’s magnificence.
Video – 6:30 PM: Immersed in the midst of the strong winds, I recorded a captivating video showcasing the tall grass wildly whipping around. The force of nature’s gusts was truly humbling.
Photo 4 – 6:35 PM: The storm’s distant rain near the lighthouse created a mesmerizing scene. The wind pushed down the once tall grass, leaving behind a testament to the storm’s might.

The last two videos give you an idea of how fast things change. As I snapped the last photo above, the skies opened up let the rain rip.
You picked a perfect storm (pun intended)! Thanks for sharing.
I can see how storm chasing is a thing!
