See the Wood for the Trees

November 2, 2021 by jgambone 1 Comment

It’s always easier to capture the big scene. Mention landscape photography to someone and I bet they tend to think of large expanses with great skies and an interesting foreground that sprawls underneath of it. I too think of that, but I challenged myself on a recent trip to Acadia National Park to include a bit more of the smaller or abstract scenes. So while on the hunt for a photo like the one above, I made sure to slow down for the ones below.

It’s the closing of one season, and the opening of the next. I’m glad to witness the dance in between and capture those moments.

Standing out in the crowd, but still blending in

For the mushroom shots below, I just love the little scenes that fuel my imagination, bringing them to life. Part of me wants to draw little eyes and mouths on them to really bring out a ‘personality’.

Happy family, hanging out
Peeking out from the mossy carpet
Is this slug playing with its food with a heart shaped cut out?
Feelin’ the sun rays, soaking up the color
Where the forest fairies call home
The old man
Tiny droplets from the morning mist gather on a delicate web
Back out to reality

Just like that it was time to move on to the next adventure.

I can definitely imagine expressions on all those mushrooms!
